Why the Sept. 25 PRB Meeting Matters for Texas Public Pension Systems

The Texas Pension Review Board (PRB) will hold its next board meeting at 10 a.m. on Thurs., Sept. 25, 2025, at the William P. Clements Building, Fourth Floor, Room 402, 300 W. 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701. The meeting is open to the public, with a virtual option available via Zoom

Why It Matters to TEXPERS Members

For trustees and administrators of Texas’ public employee retirement systems, PRB meetings are an important opportunity to stay informed about oversight, reporting, and compliance issues that directly affect your funds. The PRB provides regulatory guidance and monitors the funding and investment practices of all Texas public retirement systems, including TEXPERS members.

Key Agenda Items

Several agenda items directly intersect with pension system operations:

  • Actuarial Oversight

    • Review of actuarial valuation reports and Funding Soundness Restoration Plan (FSRP) compliance.

    • Discussion of retirement systems identified as noncompliant under Section 801.209 of the Texas Government Code.

  • Investment Guidance

    • Investment Data Report.

    • Draft updates to the Guidance for Investment Practices and Performance Evaluations, including new evaluation requirements under HB 3474 (89R).

  • Executive Director Report

    • Updates on PRB conferences and educational initiatives that support trustee training.

For trustees, these discussions provide a roadmap for regulatory expectations and highlight where the state is focusing its oversight efforts.
