House Speaker Names Chair of Pensions, Investments & Financial Services Committee
Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan announced committee assignments on Feb. 8, naming Rep. Giovanni Capriglione, R-Keller, chair of the Committee on Pensions, Investments & Financial Services.

The nine-member committee has jurisdiction over matters regarding the benefits and financial obligations of public retirement systems as well as the Texas Pension Review Board, the state agency mandated to oversee state and local government retirement systems regarding their actuarial soundness and compliance with state reporting requirements.
Committee chairs decide which bills get hearings and committee votes, both crucial steps in passing new laws.
In addition to pensions, the committee has jurisdiction over securities and investments, banking, savings and loan associations, credit unions, regulations of bonded indebtedness at the state and local level, money lending, as well as privacy and identity theft. Other agencies the committee has oversight of:

About the Pension, Investments, & Financial Services Committee Chair
Capriglione is in his fifth term representing District 98. The district includes all or part of Grapevine, Colleyville, Southlake, Keller, Westlake, North Fort Worth, and Haslet.
In addition to chairing the Pension, Investments & Financial Services Committee, Capriglione serves on the House Committee on Appropriations. He is chair of the Innovation & Technology Caucus and a member of the Manufacturers Caucus, Rural Caucus, Sportsman's Caucus, Veteran's Caucus, Farm to Table Caucus, and the Fine Arts Education Caucus. He also chairs the Tarrant County Delegation.
According to his online House biography, the representative has a bachelor's degree in physics and an MBA in finance. He is currently the owner and president of Texas Adventure Capital LLC, which provides business services to various investment fund managers and business owners.
