Legislative Committees You Might Want to Watch

TEXPERS members might want to tune in for upcoming legislative hearings. 

The Texas Senate and House will hold legislative hearings on Thursday, May 4, 2023.

Redistricting

In the Senate, the Special Committee on Redistricting will convene at 9 a.m. CT in the Senate Chamber, room E1.036, the Finance Room. This isn't directly related to pensions and investments; however, the legislation on the agenda could impact the composition of some members' legislative districts.

House Bill 1000, referred to the Senate by the House's Redistricting Committee, relates to the composition of districts for the election of members to the Texas House of Representatives.

Also on the agenda is House Bill 4559, another bill referred to the Senate by the House's Redistricting Committee. This bill relates to the application of statutes that classify political subdivisions according to population.

In the Texas House, the Redistricting Committee meets at 8:30 a.m. CT on Thursday, May 4, 2023. According to the committee's hearing notice, its members will "consider pending business." A live video broadcast of the hearing will be available here.

State Affairs

The Senate's State Affairs Committee is set to meet at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, in the Senate Chamber, room 2E.8. The committee, which includes pension matters in its purview, does not include pension-related bills in this notice.
