TEXPERS is holding Advanced training on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Austin Marriott Downtown, 304 E. Cesar Chavez St.

Advanced Trustee Training is for more seasoned trustees who have taken Basic Trustee Training or another training program covering the same content. Advanced Trustee Training is different every time it is held and offers a deep dive into various topics. The April 1 class runs from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The Advanced Trustee Training registration fee is $150 for TEXPERS member retirement systems and employee group members and is $300 for non-member retirement systems.

Registration and a continental breakfast run from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

TEXPERS' Advanced Trustee Training meets the Texas Pension Review Board's Minimum Education Training Program requirements. Pension fund trustees and administrators are required to receive a minimum of four hours of training every two years after their first year of service. A public pension fund trustee and administrator can get the four hours of training they need in one day by attending TEXPERS' Advanced Trustee Training on April 1.

Obtaining training helps a public pension fund trustee understand their fiduciary duty to their fund members. Training can help trustees understand the financial and legal risks associated with managing a public pension fund. It can also enable trustees to better comprehend the pension fund’s investment structure and how to optimize it. Training can provide trustees with the necessary skills and knowledge to enable them to be more successful in their roles as public pension fund trustees.
